It’s hard to believe, but there are still small beach communities along the Florida Panhandle that feel totally untouched by huge developments and hordes of tourists. If this appeals to you, start a search of Eastpoint homes. Located right on Apalachicola Bay, the community has around 2,500 residents. It also has easy boat access to both Apalachicola and pristine St. George Island. The pace of life is quieter here, lived according to the rhythms of the ocean. Boats for catching shrimp and oysters are anchored in the docks that line the community. The area is known for its delicious and exceptionally nutritious oysters and supplies around 90% of the oysters in Florida and 10% around the country. About 1,000 people are employed in seafood-related jobs.
Eastpoint real estate owners love their community and are proud of its maritime history. Dozens of family-owned seafood markets and restaurants sell and prepare the day’s catch with the same care and dedication they’ve been showing for the last several generations.
Residents of Eastpoint homes take their way of life seriously and value preservation work. The Apalachicola National Estuarine Research Reserve (ANERR) is located in the community and conducts tests of the water, as well as keeping tabs on the wildlife species living in the area, to make sure that the bay remains healthy. The ANERR Nature Center is open to the public, and area school kids get to visit several times during their elementary school career. Several huge tanks house species from the bay and estuary. The center also hosts workshops and lectures that are open to the community and provide lots of important information about preserving the bay.
Eastpoint may be small, but as they say, it has a heart “as big as the bay”. Community members value their beautiful beachfront, which is perfect for a quiet stroll or for fishing. The local public library has a great collection of books, as well as storytimes for young children, hands-on math and science activities for older kids, and yoga classes.
Plan your trip to this friendly community soon!
