Make a trip to tour Carrabelle homes, and you’ll find a lovely spot on Florida’s Forgotten Coast. Far from the bustle and crowds of Miami and Palm Beach, Carrabelle is still a working fishing community. For generations, many residents of Carrabelle have made their living catching and selling oysters, shrimp, and fish. This also means that residents enjoy incredible fresh-caught fish, oysters, and shrimp regularly. Many families operate fish markets and seafood restaurants.
Though a small city of about 1,300 residents, Carrabelle has a very fascinating history, which is preserved in the Carrabelle History Museum. The museum starts with the story of the first Native American settlers to the area and moves through to explain how the city developed into an important commercial fishing site. Camp Gordon Johnston WWII Museum houses artifacts and exhibits detailing the way amphibious soldiers were trained in World War II. The Annual Camp Gordon Johnston Days include a parade, which is open to all local groups who want to celebrate freedom, as well as special socials honoring WWII veterans.
Carrabelle real estate owners have many fascinating habitats to explore and parks to play in. The Crooked River Lighthouse is a local landmark, which has been preserved and restored to its original state. It’s well worth a visit. The lighthouse also hosts a number of events throughout the year. The Lantern Fest is held in October and includes music, performances, crafts, and astronomy demonstrations.
In addition to the lovely beaches, where you can take a stroll, swim, or just relax, everyone from Carrabelle homes loves their parks. Tillie Miller Park has basketball courts, tennis courts, and play structures for kids. There are also picnic pavilions, which can be rented for parties and other gatherings. North of Carrabelle, John David Patton Wildlife Park to walk the nature trails and watch for birds and other wildlife.
